For more than a decade, noted South Carolina golf writer has been TRUE to his shoes

With apologies in advance for a groaner of a pun, what follows is a TRUE story.

As a newspaper sports writer covering golf for 40 years, I was never allowed to endorse products; journalism ethics and all. But as an avid recreational player, I knew what I liked and what I appreciated in gear. And when it came to golf shoes – literally the base for your game – I was an early convert to TRUE Linkswear, totally by accident.

At a media outing before the 2007 Senior PGA Championship, I and other reporters were each offered a pair of shoes to try from a new company based in Tacoma, Wash. I asked for a size 10 ½, but was told TRUE only offered full sizes.

“Why don’t you try a 10?” the TRUE representative suggested. Skeptically, I did – and discovered the best-fitting golf shoe I’d ever worn.

Turned out I’d been wearing other companies’ size 10 ½ shoes for years – some more successfully than others – because I needed that extra half-size to accommodate my wider toe area. TRUE shoes had that wider toe box, plus a low-profile heel that felt like wearing (dating myself) “earth shoes” from the 1960s and 1970s.

Fifteen years later, I recently acquired my sixth pair of TRUE shoes – the brand-new All Day Ripstop TKIII – and slipping them on my feet was like welcoming an old friend.

Not that these Ripstops will be alone. I’m hard on golf shoes, but I still have three other pairs of TRUEs, including a 10-year-old pair that I use as “yard shoes”: while showing their age, they remain as comfortable as the first day I wore them. I look forward to playing in the new ones, which are water-resistant, wool-lined for comfort and made of sustainable materials: win-win-win.

So much for the personal story; here’s the corporate information.

All Day Ripstop is TRUE’s most sustainable golf shoe yet, utilizing recycled and renewable materials including a 100 percent recycled, wind- and water-resistant ripstop shell, recycled EVA midsole and premium wool liner. The Ripstop cuts a minimalist profile while offering generous support via a TOUR player-approved outsole. Its temperature-regulating, premium wool liner keeps golfers warm and dry on cold days while remaining enjoyable on warmer days thanks to its all-season design.

“The All Day Ripstop (priced at $150 for men and women) is the perfect weather-ready complement to our best-selling All Day Knit [TKII] with TRUE comfort in more weather conditions,” says TRUE President Jason Moore, co-founder with brother (and PGA Tour player/endorser) Ryan Moore. “Sustainability is a major focus of TRUE, and we are continuing to push even further into environmentally friendly materials and sustainable business practices in 2022.”

TRUE’s direct-to-consumer business model (visit www.truelinkswear.com) was launched in 2017 and is augmented by retail partnerships with golf courses and destinations such as Pebble Beach Resorts, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Streamsong Resort and Chambers Bay.

TRUE’s footwear portfolio includes five core designs focused on sustainability, performance and comfort with a modern, minimalist aesthetic. Several models, including the All Day Ripstop, are crafted almost entirely from recycled materials. For more information, visit www.truelinkswear.com, or check on Twitter @truelinkswear.
