AIKEN, S.C.—Chase Nevins of Great Falls, Va., birdied the final two holes last Saturday at Palmetto Golf Club to edge Sam Jackson, a member of Palmetto, by one shot in the 49th Palmetto Amateur.

Nevins finished at 5-under-par 275 for four trips around Palmetto, which played to a par of 70. His final-round 68 tied for low score of the day.

The left-handed Nevins is on a roll. A week earlier, he won the prestigious Porter Cup tournament in New York state.

The most impressive shot of the day came from first-round leader Matthew Doyle, who made a hole-in-one on the difficult par-3 16th. He tied for third at 3-under 277 with Daniel Boone of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and Miles Eubanks, also a member of Palmetto.
