Right on the heels of its golf ball lineup sweeping gold medals in Golf Digest’s annual equipment “Hot List,” Srixon has bagged another huge trophy in the equipment arena.
Srixon's Z 565 driver finished first overall in independent testing of more than 20 drivers from nine major manufacturers, making it 2017's "Most Wanted" driver, according to MyGolfSpy.
MyGolfSpy.com, an independent golf media outlet whose expressed mission “is to inform and protect the golf consumer,” has named the Srixon Z 565 its “Most Wanted Driver of 2017.”
In extensive research that led to the award, MyGolfSpy tested more than 20 driver models from nine different manufacturers. During testing, 30 players with handicaps ranging from plus-2 to 16 hit 7,330 shots, with information collected from 225,000 data points. And the Srixon Z 565 finished atop the rankings.
Unlike Golf Digest’s Hot List, which can and regularly does award gold medals to more than one entry in a market segment, the “Most Wanted” honor is, as the name suggests, a superlative, reserved for a single model club or ball. Further, MyGolfSpy bills its test as “the largest unbiased, data-based driver test conducted in the golf media industry.”
The Z 565 was one of two Srixon models tested against drivers from Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping, Cobra, Wilson Staff, Mizuno, Titleist and Air Force 1. Players testing the clubs ranged in age from 18-79 and produced swing speeds from 75-120 mph. Testing measured 10 different criteria including carry, total distance, accuracy, spin, launch angle and ball speed.
Based on all data collected and analyzed, the Srixon Z 565 delivered the best overall performance of any model in the 2017 study, a result MyGolfSpy called “the biggest shock in our driver test in years.”
It is also worth noting that Srixon's Z 765 driver tied Callaway's Big Bertha Epic for first in the total distance category and was fifth overall.
Designed to produce a high launch with a slight draw bias, the Z 565 driver features three technologies that work together to enhance ball speed across the face. According to the manufactuer, a multi-step sole design allows the entire sole to flex, which enhances the coefficient of restitution, especially on low impacts. The 6-4 titanium cup face, extended farther around the crown and sole, creates a large sweet spot. And the lightweight crown – with roughly four grams of weight removed and repositioned, as compared to previous models – lowers the clubhead’s center of gravity and enhances the head’s resistance to twisting by increasing MOI (moment of inertia).
